Sturgeon: Vote to increase the minimum wage to £8.70

"I can confirm that SNP MPs will vote to increase the minimum wage to £8.70 by 2020."
From the SNP 2015 manifesto: “We’ll back an increase in the minimum wage… making a quarter of a million people in Scotland better off by up to £4,000 a year.”

Addressing the Scottish Trades Union Congress in April 2015, a day after launching her party’s manifesto, Nicola Sturgeon said: “The SNP manifesto sets out a clear package of measures to stand up for working people. At the centre of this is a commitment to increasing the minimum wage to £8.70 an hour by 2020.”

Ms Sturgeon added: “I know Ed Miliband addressed you yesterday, and let me say in some areas like […] increasing the minimum wage – though I would like to go further than he would to £8.70 by 2020 – on these and many other areas we have similar views. Where we support proposals a Labour government would put forward we will support them vigorously and loudly.”
