Miliband: No rise in VAT, National Insurance or basic/higher rate of Income Tax

"We will not raise National Insurance or VAT or the basic or higher rate of income tax."
Launching the Labour 2015 manifesto, Ed Miliband said: “I make this promise to working families today.”

From the Labour election manifesto: “We will not increase the basic or higher rates of Income Tax or National Insurance. Nor will we raise VAT.”

In March 2015, pledging not to increase VAT if Labour wins the General Election, Ed Balls said: “I would resign rather than break that promise.”
